- Future help and participation for Amnesty International Taiwan English Speaker’s Group
This is the new website for the English Speakers Group that’s been in development for a while. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know via the Contact page. You might be wondering about the background, it’s artwork by Eboy for Amnesty International’s Poverty is Modern campaign. All the old posts from the old site will be transferred over within the week. Finally watch out as we’ll have a new event on June 3rd following the one this Saturday.
Fifty years since the Amnesty candle began to shine a light on repression, the human rights revolution now stands on the threshold of historic change. People are rejecting fear. Courageous people, led largely by youth, are standing up and speaking out in the face of bullets, beatings, tear gas and tanks. This bravery — combined with new technology that is helping activists to outflank and expose government suppression of free speech and peaceful protest — is sending a signal to repressive governments that their days are numbered. But there is a serious fight-back from the forces of repression. The international community must seize the opportunity for change and ensure that 2011 is not a false dawn for human rights.
The next meeting of the Amnesty English-speaking group is at 7pm on Thursday 14 October Everyone is welcome. There are several options for activities including watching the DVDs of The Crossing or The Megayumi Story or doing some letter writing.
If enough people might show up (last time it was 2) we even might be able to start a project.
The meeting is at the CICM Missionaries office on the 10th floor at No. 2 Zhongshan N. Rd. Sec. 1, Taipei City (台北市中山北路一段2號10樓1003室). It is very close to Taipei Main Station. There is a page with a Google map showing the location.
Amnesty International France in collaboration with advertising agency TBWA produced two short advertisements to coincide with Amnesty International’s Death Penalty Campaign and will be launched on the 4th October 2010. The film was awarded a Bronze Lion at the Cannes International festival
